Reflections on Big Lake - Thanksgiving

I love Thanksgiving! Reuniting with family and close friends to enjoy decadent food, rich conversion and lively games, while reflecting on all that we have to be thankful for makes for a truly memorable weekend.

This year is extra special to me. Personally, we welcomed our third grandchild into the family and her parents gave her my name as her middle name.  I am honored beyond words!  Professionally, we enjoyed the first full year of Big Lake RV Park & Campground being open and that has been something to celebrate.

Years of planning, permitting, and construction came together for us this summer. Spending time with our guests - chatting in the campground or at the side of the lake - brought Mark and I great satisfaction. People enjoyed the property and the surrounding area. We also had local business people mention that they noticed our guests and the additional business they brought to the community. We expected this effect and are gratified to see it being noticed.

Mark recently told me, “ This was a great place to live and raise a family.  Now, we have the opportunity to share it with others and meet some wonderful people.  That is a reward in itself and has exceeded our expectations.  Our goal from the beginning was to bless people,  and in the process we have been blessed. I’m really looking forward to the upcoming season and to reconnecting with some old friends and making new ones.”

Mark started early in April by building the last picnic tables (extra sturdy and made of cedar), constructing our entrance sign, and building a 10,000 square foot enclosed dog park. Then the dock was launched and ready for visitors. Over the summer we finished the laundry, bakery, seating area, and office/store spaces. I’m eagerly anticipating filling the store area with locally made products and gifts that are of interest to our guests and some necessities as needed.

Each guest is unique. Some stayed only one night and some much longer. Some we barely saw and others became friends.

As you reflect on what you have to be thankful for this Thanksgiving  season, know that we too are counting our blessings -small and large- here in Maine.
